This should be titled “Mis-management”.

I painted this at a Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association paint-out and Workshop with Jeff Smith. As he was painting the Lagoon, I did this painting from the top of a 15 foot dune. (I painted the Lagoon a couple of days later).

This spot no longer exists.

The Federal Department of Fisheries demanded the river be re-routed to the north, resulting in the erosion of the parking lot, rest rooms, and the sand dunes where this was painted. You would need to hover 30 feet above the river to do this painting now. . . and so it goes. . .

The Corral de Tierra, literally the fence of earth, is a sandstone outcropping in a canyon between Salinas and Monterey, along Highway 68.

When John Steinbeck was young, he and his sister rode their horses to this spot, where he later set part of his story “the Pastures of Heaven”.

The location was firs reported by a soldier in the Army of Spain, when he had discovered it while chasing stray livestock.

I painted this view through the trees toward the Mission one morning with the group from the Los Gatos Art Association.

It was late in the Fall, and there were just a few clusters of leaves still left on the trees.

The dunes and cliffs at the site of the old Officer’s Club at Fort Ord have been turned into a state park.

I painted this one morning with a group from MBPAPA.

This scene is from the observation point, looking north toward Moss Landing.

I was painting at the Almaden Quicksilver Mines, with a group of Plein Air Painters from the Los Gatos Art Association. This scene, across the street caught my eye. It was Fall, and most of the leaves had fallen, presenting a view past the bridge to Le Foret Restaurant.
